Merits
- Backs in the late 70s, Heinz and Hugo Fiege made the courageous decision to transform their tradition-rich family-run company from a classic transport and freight forwarding company into a holistic logistics service provider without ties to a specific mode of transport. The brothers set a trend with this move, a trend that drove the process of transformation in the entire logistics service sector in the ensuing decades and that is still in evidence today.
- Fiege developed a holistic logistics model for Japanese tyre manufacturer Bridgestone. The concept included warehouses, packaging, value added for the products such as price labelling, monitoring, shelf maintenance and other services. Transport played only a secondary role. This cooperation was symbolised by a unit price per tyre as remuneration. In return, Fiege handled the front-to-end logistics chain from the plants in the Far East through to the dealers in Germany.
- In 1992, the "pioneers of contract logistics" were the first logistics service provider to be presented with the prestigious German Award for SCM of Bundesvereinigung Logistik (BVL) for their "mould-breaking integrated overall logistics concept".
- In the early 90s, the Fieges also coined the term "eco-logistics". It was not enough for them to deliver the right goods in the right place at the right time with the right mode of transport; they also wanted to do this with the minimum burden on the environment. In 1996, Heinz and Hugo Fiege were named "Eco-Managers of the Year" in recognition of this commitment and received the award presented annually by the WWF-Germany environmental foundation and the business magazine "Capital" to leading figures who serve as role models for all of German industry due to their environmentally aware corporate management practices.
- The two brothers have also made an important contribution to the development of European logistics through their active involvement in the relevant associations, Heinz Fiege as a member of the Supervisory Board and Management Board of the Association of German Transport Companies (VKS), Hugo Fiege as a member of the Board of Bundesvereinigung Logistik (BVL).
